Chief
Chief was brought to Hanaeleh's attention as needing to be rescued when Hanaeleh board members were out looking at another horse that needed to be rescued! They were trying to find the right stall when another boarder directed them towards Chief's stall. He had been put into a stall because he had not been handled for so long that he had become feral, and was not able to be caught. The sad thing about Chief is that his story is so familiar- he had been one of the most expensive horses that was sold at the barn, and is triple-registered. Although a tumor took his left eye, he was not overly sensitive, but divorce led him to being neglected and in a situation where he would have been sold at an auction where his future was grim. Within a few weeks in Hanaeleh's care, Chief trusted people enough to be caught, and was able to be put back out into a paddock. Since the very first day Hanaeleh brought him to the barn, he has turned people's heads. They mistake him for a Gypsy Vanner because of his size and markings and his docile attitude towards most everything made him a very popular horse! Although Hanaeleh had a number of people interested in adopting him, Chief has found a new home with our treasurer, Lori! Stories like Chief's are why Hanaeleh was created, and we hope to see many more in the future.
