Latest Horse Slaughter News March, 2007 The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld an anti-slaughter ban in Texas, keeping two of the three slaughterhouses in the U.S. closed for the purpose of slaughtering horses for the purpose of human consumption. In 2005, these protections had been stripped, and the threat of slaughter was very real for these animals. The bill will now go onto the Senate, where it will hopefully pass. This is a very important step for anti-slaughter legislation because Illinois has one of the three slaughterhouses in the U.S. that take in horses! Texas has two of the three slaughterhouses in the United States. Additionally, airlines have begun to refuse to ship the horsemeat overseas, thus eliminating the demand. Americans don't eat horses!
